Born from
the Love to Craft

What began as one craftsman's obsession with medieval accuracy has grown into a respected one-person workshop for historical shields based in Białystok, Poland.

The Founding

A Guild Forged
in Białystok

Shieldwright began the way the best things do — with play. Michal B. had been acting out knights-and-dragons adventures with his daughters in their Białystok home when he realised the props were letting the story down. So he made them proper shields. The smile on their faces said everything. That feeling — of putting something into someone's hands that they had always wanted to own, or only ever dared to dream about — turned out to be the real engine behind it all. Crafting is the passion; making people happy is the point.

“I don't want to make decorative objects. I want to make something you actually want to hold — the weight, the grip, the feel of a shield that could have belonged to a real knight. That's what gets me to the workshop every morning.”
— Founder & Head Craftsman

From those first shields made for his daughters, word spread through the LARP and re-enactment community. By 2019 a proper workshop was set up in Białystok, dedicated entirely to the period Michal loves most: the high and late Middle Ages, from the Norman kite shields of the 11th century through to the elaborate heraldic boards of the 15th.

Today the workshop produces shields rooted in medieval European traditions — kite and heater — covering roughly 400 years of shield-making history. Every piece is made to be owned, used, and loved, not displayed behind glass.

Beyond historical accuracy, Shieldwright also crafts shields inspired by the worlds you love — from the detailed arms of Kingdom Come: Deliverance to the iconic house sigils of Game of Thrones. If it can be researched, drawn, and built, it can be made.
