Hand-crafted original
With its bold contrast and richly patterned field, the Black Lion Shield carries the character of a late medieval heraldic piece designed to command attention. The lion device stands out sharply against a dark field scattered with fleur-de-lis, giving the piece a courtly richness while preserving its martial presence.
Built as a broader and heavier field shield, this piece is constructed from three-layer plywood for durability and a reassuring presence in the hand. The face is finished in gesso and hand-painted, with the lion device formed in low relief to give the surface added depth and character. The reverse is fitted with a strengthened double-leather grip, with one strap for the arm and a longer adjustable shoulder strap for carrying, while protective hand padding improves comfort and control in use. Every detail is executed without compromise for speed of production.
